MAPPING
Sewer mapping is the process of collecting information on existing sewerage and drainage systems for use by design engineers seeking to upgrade existing works, to solve flood problems or pollution of watercourses.
They use the data collected to build hydraulic models to simulate the flow rate, storage capacity and discharge of existing systems. This determines if the system is overloaded.
Pumping survey drop tests are used to ascertain the pumping rate of each pump, storage capacity of the collecting well and the hydraulic capacity and discharge rate of the rising main. Again, indicating whether the system is overloading or if additional catchment areas can be added.
The data collected can also update or amend any discrepancies in the printed sewer records, particularly if any new works have been added but are not shown.
Any problems encountered such as blockages, structural defects, damaged or inoperative equipment, can me noted and passed on to the client who can quickly organise works to remedy the defects which may alone be causing hydraulic problems.
